Frequently Asked Questions

August 23, 2020

Version 1.2 (November 11, 2020)

As is the case with most streamers on Twitch, offering an FAQ serves as a dispensary of pertinent information. However, rather than assaulting the eyes of someone in the form of a saturated info section that will immediately be glazed over anyway, I instead offer it here to peruse in what hopefully comes across as a more complete and coherent picture of relevant questions at hand. Beyond that, I hope it can lend some insight to people that interact with my work from outside of the streaming sphere, as more and more I will be broadening the work I do (hence in part the creation of this website for example).

This will serve more as a general FAQ about the stream and speedruns or projects I currently am working on and less as an "About" section. On that note, expect such a page in the header of the website to be yet forthcoming.

With the formalities out of the way, onto the FAQ.

General Questions

Q: What is the 365 Day Daily Stream Challenge?

At the end of 2019, I endeavored to make a radical change on the front of staying truly committed to something. I landed on the idea of the daily stream after hearing the thought floated to me by a longterm viewer of the stream. Also partially instrumental in the decision was recalling the speedrunner Linkus7 doing it several years back to great success.

Why 5:42:52 everyday exactly?

Since mid 2017, I have considered myself to be a "full-time streamer." That said, in quick reflection over the vast majority of time since then (prior to 2020), I have neither maintained a consistent schedule nor streamed 40 hours per week to meet the normal work week paradigm. So I simply took 40 hours and divided it by 7, yielding approximately 5:42:52 for each day to be streamed.

While the consistent schedule part is yet to come to fruition, having gotten 235 days in (at the time of this writing) successfully through the challenge, I can say I am exceedingly happy for having decided to undertake this, even with all the turmoil that has arisen along the way. (Needless to say, I am still resolved to keep going of course!)

You can hear more of my thoughts and feelings as to why I am doing the daily stream from this video at the start of 2020 along with my thoughts on daily streaming after streaming 100 days in a row here.

Q: You should speedrun or play game x.

Thank you for the suggestion. However, I am adamantly following the learning of a particular set of games' speedruns for the foreseeable future with unique criteria for each. You can find an approximate idea of this list in the part of my Twitch info section labeled "THE PLAN." An article explaining and dissecting this further in detail will get at the heart of this more. But in short, if it is not on that list, do not expect to see it.

Q: When will you speedrun or play game x?

Read the response to the aforementioned question.

Q: Will you speedrun or play game x?

bump

Q: Do you have notes for game/category x?

No. I feel that speedrun notes are more often than not only useful to the individual that made them and are unfit for public consumption. There are further grievances than just this, but this at base makes publicizing my own notes a nonstarter.

That said, I am currently working on a Beginner's Guide for the Final Fantasy VIII Any% Speedrun. Depending on the reception of that project, I would have earnest interest in creating further guides for beginners in games that I have adequate experience.

Q: Did you buy game x?

No. I frankly do not want to play games casually by myself nor do I have the time to do so. If I buy a game, it is most likely directly involved with plans to speedrun it.

Q: I remember you used to be called Cordellium on Twitch. What happened to that username? Why the change and what should I call you now on Twitch?

I addressed this issue closer to the time of the change in this video, but in brief, I do not want to hide behind a layer of anonymity. In using my own name, I am hoping to dispel within myself some notions of being insular as well as not taking responsibility for my actions and words. (Additionally, imagining myself even 5 years from now being called Cordellium makes me shudder.)

As far as what to call me, I would prefer Connor, but Cord/Cordellium is still fine for those who know me as that from the past. Also, and this may come as a shock, Cordell is not my first name.

Q: Are you Casey Affleck?

I used to be, but due to excessive malding, I now walk this mortal realm as David Byrne.
